A behavior that involves a set of attitudes toward life and other
individuals. Underlying this pattern, there is a pernicious resistance to
follow the rules; a rush to finish stages; deferring to start, continue or
complete a specific task; a tendency to finish products by any means; and a
disregard for the pursuit of perfection.
In student life, shortcut culture involves getting good grades by
cheating on exams, copying or plagiarizing writings and withholding credit to
other sources in thesis works.
In the professional and business world, shortcuts are used to climb the
corporate ladder by shaking the competition with unfair and primitive warfare
maneuvers; delivering unfinished products devoid of quality control. The
embrace of corruption and collusion with criminal elements and all kinds of
malfeasance to accumulate wealth at the fastest rate possible, attached to the
principle: "the higher the risk, the higher the return." All this
process is built within the frame of disrespect for the consequences.
As a pedestrian or a driver, ignore the footbridges, zebra crossings,
sidewalks and the most elementary precautions to avoid being running over.
Disrespect of drivers for queues, parking sites and the rules of use of
overpasses and tunnels, the weight capacity of bridges, continuous yellow
lines, traffic lights and any signs that condition rational behavior.
Shortcut culture is the practice of prioritizing the immediate for the
permanent; the insecure for the guaranteed; the illogic for intelligent;
anguish for tranquility; and death for life. That, in the end, with patience,
can infallibly move the distance between two points and promote satisfactory
goals.
